Does The Media Blow Things Out Of Proportion – Do They Really Care About Rihanna & Chris Brown?

Author: kenyetta mckinney
Being a person that has been in the media (print, television and radio) for about 15 years, there is one thing that I have learned, and that is that there are good journalists, and there are bad journalists – there are the ones that will step on another’s toes if it means that it will make their story that much more interesting. There comes a time when you have to choose whether you want to ruins a person’s life or if you want to just deliver the story just as it should be written –without all of the added, misleading information.
I often tell people that I should be rich by now and not because of any other reason other than, I have things on tape that could probably earn me a quick buck, and with celebrities spilling their guts to me, and not realizing that what they’re saying could very well ruin them. I was raised to believe that you really do reap what you sew, and while that is cliché, it is the absolute truth –what goes around comes back around, and it is because of that reason that I believe in reporting the story just as it was conveyed to me.
So, it has been all about R&B/Pop singers, Chris Brown and Rihanna, and domestic abuse. The picture says it all or does it? It shows a battered Rihanna, suddenly turning ‘good’ boy, Chris Brown into a villain, after keeping such a squeaky clean reputation for so long, all of a sudden, something goes terribly wrong, and the next thing that you know, in the public’s eyes, Chris Brown is damaged – losing endorsements and radio play, which ultimately means that he is losing money. Can we thank the media for that? Did they do it for the right reasons, or to sell papers and get viewership? Or, did they do it because it was domestic violence, and the awareness needs to be raised? I have personally lived in a women’s shelter because of domestic violence, so I know that it is nothing to play with, but why wasn’t my story told, or my mother’s story told – because she is the one that endured it. I say the above to say, there are so many women out there that deserve for their stories to be told, but the reality is that they are no Rihanna –which is an unfair, because telling the Rihanna story sells more papers, than if you would tell my or someone else’s story, that does not have celebrity status.
So, I say right now, haven’t written for countless of papers and having owned my own entertainment magazine, use your own judgment when reading and make your own assessments of what could have happened, and always remember that there are two sides of a story – you simply cannot believe everything that you read or see, unless you absolutely trust the medium that is reporting it.

February 10, 2009. A friend of Chris Brown reached out to MediaTakeOut.com, offering us this explanation of what happened on Saturday night:
[Rihanna is] outrageously jealous and insecure. So [Chris] would get into arguments and fights with her. He never hit her once but she’d [allegedly] smack him, bite him and scratch him and once he even got hit in the balls kinda’ hard. So [she] got into the habit of hitting him because to her it was fine since he never hit her back.
[On Saturday night, Chris] finally told her to shut the f*ck up and it’s over. So she socked the shit out of him while he was driving and kept on hitting him until he crashed into a parked car.
[Chris] then got out of the car and tried to pull her out and got hit in the face some more numerous times. Scratched up and everything.
Simply because he was done with all of the drama. Anyway when she smacked him this last time he smacked her back. So he [left Rihanna there alone].
Hurt from banging her face on the windshield/dashboard from the car accident [somebody] then called the cops and [Rihanna] told them that [Chris] whipped her ass.
[Later the next day, Chris] wanted to go get his things from her apt to go to a hotel and saw a million cop cars there.
So he left and when he sent us to retrieve his stuff, this girl didn’t want to let us get his 6 bags of stuff. She said tell him to come get it himself … Tell him to answer his phone and that I’m sorry we can work this out. To which I said, hell no my friend isn’t coming anywhere near here. It’s too late for all of that. He just wants his luggage and you guys need never to see each other anymore….
Sh*t happens was definitely in effect and it’s crazy how everyone can jump on a woman’s side and not know what happened. Hind sight is 20/20 and I told [him that] he should’ve gotten out of the car and called the cops on her a*s when it was just him with scratches and shit.
This seems like a very interesting story. Of course we have absolutely no way to know whether it’s true or just damage control.
It does get a little tricky however. You’ll recall that initially both Rihanna and Chris’ people were claiming that Rihanna was injured in a “traffic accident.” Also, according to TMZ, their Lamborghini was towed from the scene of the alleged assault in Hancock Park to a nearby police impound lot. Could the car have been damaged???
Developing….

It’s a shame it happened, and I feel terrible for her. I’m shocked and disgusted at how everyone feels sorry for CHRIS!
I can only pray she will get better and pray he will become a better man.

I guess there were plenty of other feminists who beat him to it. I felt bad for Rhianna and condemned Chris’ actions, but I also feel bad for men (yes they are in the minority, but they are still relevant) who are victims of DA and are largely ignored.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I am not a fan of Al Sharpton’s pick and choose tactics, or the pick and choose actions of extreme modern feminists. Fighting discrimination and abuse *selectively* is detrimental to us all.

What is your reaction to the latest developments in the Rihanna-Chris Brown situation?
According to Browns attorney(who appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning), Rihanna was attacked by Chris Brown after she revealed that she’d been sleeping around & had contracted herpes & given it to Brown. How F’ed up is that?

Do you believe Rihanna attacked chris brown in jealously over a phone call?
We know she started the argument and it ended tragically for them both.
Her face is ruined and his career is ruined

Where was Al Sharpton during the whole Rihanna/Chris Brown incident…Why didn’t he speak out?
Al Sharpton was leading the whole crusade against Don Imus when he disparaged the Rutger’s women
And he was all up front and center when a stripper accused 3 white men of rape, Al Sharpton was there basically calling for their heads even before they had been charged and tried in court, yet during the whole Rihanna and Chris Brown incident I heard not a single word from him.
Does anyone find this odd?

Is anybody else sick of hearing about Rihanna/Chris Brown?
It seems like everyday people keep talking about Rihanna, or Chris Brown, or how they’re gonna do a new interview, blah blah blah. So I just want to know if Im the only person sick of hearing about them?
