When housebreaking a puppy there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Do you know the difference? Are you guilty of trying to train it the wrong way? What do you do when a puppy has an accident inside?

Wrong Way: You take the puppy, yell at it, and rub its nose in it.

Right Way: You show the puppy how disappointed you are, no need to yell. Clean up the mess, take your puppy outside.

When is the best time to take your puppy outside?

Wrong way: I take it out when I have the chance, it’s usually the last thing that I do.

Right Way: I take him outside first thing in the morning. At lunch time if I can come home, and it’s the first thing that I do when I get home.

Where do you put your puppy when you are gone for the day?

Wrong Way: I let it roam around free, but it makes a mess and pees or poops where it wants. I get mad at it, because it keeps on doing it.

Right way: I usually keep it in a crate, or a kennel area, with some water, and of course its toys to play with. This area is usually by the entrance that I take it outside to do its business.
