Is Modern Day Music Too Raunchy?

Rihanna - Rude Boy Lyrics ...

Author: Jason Shane

I, like many people, have always been a fan of music. I’ve always prided myself on keeping up with the times, and keeping a open mind with regards to new trends and styles. And while I’ve been able to train my ears to accept new sounds and genres, there’s one thing that I haven’t been able to get my head around: The increasing explicitness of songs in the charts.

At the risk of sounding old, I simply don’t understand why many of these provocative song are allowed to play on day time mainstream radio. A lot of the lyrics are either sexually provocative, contain poorly blanked out swearing, or promote violence, drink and drug abuse.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying musicians should be preachers or sing about love all the time, but there’s a time an place for everything. There’s obviously a need for songs with a bit more attitude, but they shouldn’t be on mainstream radio with thousands apon thousands of kids listening! And what’s worse is a lot of these kids then go and sing these lyrics whether they know what they mean or not. Would you want your eight year old singing about being drunk in the club like Lady GaGa or asking a rude boy if they’re “big enough” like Rihanna? I didn’t think so.

I do like some of these songs myself, but it makes me cringe when I hear children singing along to these lyrics. Is it necessary for there to be better guidelines as to what can and can’t be released in the charts? I think so, and I’m sure a lot of parents would agree.

I don’t see why not, all pop songs are like this, pokerface by lady gaga is about faking orgasms, and love game is about sex. Mindless drones that listen to pop will sing to anything if it is in the charts

she’s talking to a guy (rude boy)
“can you get it up” (can your d..ck get hard?)
“is you big enough”(is he packin or is it a shrinky dink)
“take it take it take it love me love me”(take charge and dominate me)

basically she’s telling the kid that they are gonna smash tonight, and she’s gunna let him be the dominant one.

Do you think Rude Boy by Rihanna would be so popular if people knew the lyrics?
Come here rude boy boy can you get it up?
Come here rude boy boy is it big enough?

Rihanna – Rude Boy misheard lyrics?
When I first heard this song, all I could hear was “cameroon boy”. Did anyone else make the same mistake?
the first time I heard it on the radio, I didn’t know the title so I just trusted my ears (which btw should NEVER be trusted :D )
