Do You Know What A Solar Energy Panel Is

Author: Steve Johnson

This is a question I have been getting all the time in my travels. People are very curious about this old new found technology. Solar power begins with the suns energy. A Solar energy panel, also known as photovoltaic’s, are used to transfer light from the sun, which is composed of energy particles known as “photons”, into electricity that can be used to power electrical loads. Light from the sun is a renewable energy supply which provides very clean energy, which is created by the panel.

What Can a Solar Energy Panel Be Used for Today?

Solar technology can be used for all kinds of applications including remote power systems for cabins, poll barns, out buildings, portable appliances and of course used for the creation of electrical energy by residential and commercial solar energy panel systems.

Why Should We Use Solar Technology?

The obvious answer to this question would be to become more green and help out the environment by reducing your carbon footprint. However this is not the major concern in many individuals’ eyes. The use of solar power has been a concern of the general public for many of years. Energy prices are on the rise and becoming a major concern among home owners. People are trying to find alternative ways of energy to save on their utility expenses. Solar energy panel systems offer this savings and people are doing it in ways that are affordable. In a lot of cases home owners are saving almost 80 percent on their electric bills. This is probably the main reason solar is becoming very popular energy source.

You Can Have Solar Energy Panel Systems Professionally Installed.

Solar technology is on the rise and becoming a very cheap alternative energy source. There are many ways one can install a solar energy panel system. The easiest yet most expensive way to utilize solar technology is to have a system installed by a professional contracting company. When considering this option, the only concern people will have is the rate of return on your investment. In a lot of cases professionally installed systems can take a number of years to recoup the money invested in the solar panel system.

There Is A New Alternative To High Cost Solar Energy Panel Installs.

Now that people have found out about solar panels and all of the energy savings they represent. People are finding ways to get around the high cost of a professionally installed solar system. The most common way people are saving money on solar energy panel installations is to build them yourself. Solar panel do it yourself installations have become a new found do it yourself industry, There are many guides available to the common homeowner making it very easy to build and install the panels yourself. In many cases people are saving around 80 percent off, of the professionally installed solar systems.

Since you’re asking about price, I’m assuming you’re interested in saving money. Just so you know, your best payback is investing in conservation measures, like insulation, efficient lighting, and efficient appliances The next best payback is solar hot water. And now, about the solar electricity:

The vast majority of modern solar electric (photovoltaic) systems do not use batteries. They tie to the electric grid, driving the meter backwards during the day, and letting the meter run forwards at night. At least, conceptually, that’s how it’s supposed to work. How much a system costs really depends on how much electricity the house uses, and what fraction of it you want to replace with solar (it doesn’t have to be 100%). At the low end, a solar install will be maybe $15,000, and the largest common system will be in the ballpark of $50,000. That’s before state and federal rebates, which return as much as 2/3 of the cost in some areas.

Our house is 1800 square feet, in a mild climate with no A/C, no electric heat, no electric stove, no pool. A 3 kW array supplies substantially 100% of our electricity, and cost $12,000 net after rebates.

A small one to charge your cell phone is $10

One to keep a large house supplied with power, including all the associated equipment can be more than $50000

So the answer is “it depends”

Visible light from the sun is in the form of photon before hitting the solar panel. In a silicon solar panel, the photon is caught by the semiconductor material. Energy equivalent of the photon is then used to excite an electron from the semiconductor molecule. The aggregate of free flowing electrons form the current in a closed electric circuit.

The efficency of conversion from sun light to electricity is not 100%. The majority of light energy hitting the solar panel is dissipated in the form of heat. As technology advances, the conversion efficiency is improving, hence reducing the cost of solar energy.

My husband has been an installer of Solar pool heating and Solar Hot Water heaters, and other things with solar for about 5 years now, we are also looking to open our own solar company, the requirements here in florida are that you have been in the solar field for 4 years and 1 year as a supervisor, then you have to buy all the books (12 in total) and stufy them and take an Exam to actually be able to get your license, so if you want to open the business doing solar you have to know solar but while i was looking into it i noticed it said “You can also substitute up to three years of college credit hours for experience.” and the college credits do not need to be construction related, i guess the best thing to do is type in yahoo “Solar license & the state you live in because each state has their own requirements! one thing is the company my husband works for, they pay about $1,800 for material and sell the systems for about $9,000, so theres money to be made!! good luck and let me know how it goes!

How much money to build SOLAR PANEL (solar energy system)?
I read this article on good things about solar energy.
and it said ‘Solar panel construction has advanced significantly in the last 20 years and can withstand almost any weather condition. It is not even that expensive since technology has advanced so much that panel cost has been reduced significantly.’

So i was wondering how much does it actually cost now!
